Pleasure Craft License Changes for 2026

Key Changes:

  • New fee: A $24 fee now applies to new, renewed, transferred, or replacement licenses.
  • License expiry: All licenses are now valid for 5 years, including older licenses that previously had no expiry date.
  • Mandatory updates: License information must now be updated within 30 days of any change (name, phone number, etc.).
  • Online access: As of January 6, 2026, license information can be updated online free of charge.
  • Expanded cancellation criteria: Licenses must be canceled if a vessel is no longer seaworthy or under other specified conditions.
  • Wind-powered vessels: As of December 31, 2027, wind-powered pleasure craft over 6 meters will require a license.
